Project Infrastructure Implementation

Project 1

Implementation of Project Management Infrastructure

Client

Funds Manager and Life Company

Objectives

To create a project infrastructure able to initiate, deliver and complete projects faster, better and more cheaply, as well as to bring about  this environment more inspiring to staff.

Pragmat Role

Pragmat managed the implementation of a project infrastructure across multiple business units over a period of 2 years. Major project deliverables included:

  • a performance management framework;

  • a capability development program;

  • an  organisational restructure; and

  • the development of suitable processes and tools.

 As well as management of the entire project portfolio, the scope of the assignment through to the development and quality assurance of software.

Outcomes

In the very early stages of this project significant direct savings were achieved, and gaps in the implementation of business unit strategies were identified.  In the later stages of this project a permanent infrastructure had been established and handed over to the business.  It is estimated that realisable savings of nearly $5M p.a. were achieved as a direct result of this project.

Project 2

Project Management Methodology Development

Client

Australian Pharmaceuticals Manufacturer

Objectives

To achieve higher levels of IT project management performance, and thus better project outcomes, through the use across the IT group of methods and tools tailored to the needs of the business.

Pragmat Role

Pragmat reviewed the client’s existing project management tools and techniques, and found that there was little consistency in the way in which IT projects were managed. We facilitated a design workshop with the client to determine its project management needs and how they might best be met. Guided by the outcome, we then designed a collection of project management processes and a comprehensive library of document templates. Finally, we provided client training in the use of the processes and templates.

Outcomes

The client was able to achieve a common framework for the execution of its IT projects. This has resulted not only in better execution of projects, but has also provided senior management with the ability, for the first time, to be able to compare the conduct and progress of projects within the portfolio.
