Project / Program Management

Project 1

GST Compliance Program

Client

International diversified financial services company

Objectives

To achieve group-wide compliance with the “A New Tax System “ legislation by July 1st, 2000.

Pragmat Role

Pragmat was engaged to manage the Program to a successful conclusion. We established the Program Office and provided senior PO personnel including the program director and the PO manager.

Pragmat licenced the client to use our “Coaster” project methodology and our Issues Management Database during the program, developed the Program plan with the client, conducted a launch event, and produced a customised Program “pack” containing all information and templates required for administration of the Program. Pragmat also provided Project Managers for several major business units.

Outcomes

Audited compliance was achieved (just) in time by all business units included in this program.

Project 2

Restructuring of a bank discount broking operation

Client

An Australian “big four” bank

Objectives

To achieve quantum gains in the efficiency of the broking operation, and to provide a foundation for future business growth.

Pragmat Role

Pragmat fulfilled the role of Manager for the program, the scope of which included:

  • the replacement and outsourcing of the IT infrastructure;

  • outsourcing of back office operations;

  •  re-engineering of all remaining business processes and ASX compliance;

  • replacement of the call centre and on-line web trading facilities;

  • implementation of a document imaging system; and

  • implementation of a new margin lending product.

The program budget was $12.5M, and it employed over 120 people.

Outcomes

The Program was delivered beyond the initial estimates, but within the time and budget contingency allowances determined as part of the planning process.

Project 3

Implementation of a portfolio of strategic projects.

Client

Funds Manager

Objectives

To maximise the benefits expected from a number of strategic projects by coordinating the implementation of these projects across the business.

Pragmat Role

This is an “in-progress” assignment, where Pragmat is fulfilling the role of Program Manager, having started with the development of a Program plan and organisation structure. We have developed the methods and associated templates and documentation necessary to manage the projects as a cohesive program.

Other specific Pragmat responsibilities have included the development of the Program delivery strategy, and preparation of the Program communications plan.

Day to day control of the Program entails liaison with a large number of service providers and vendors, as well as client employees in local, interstate and overseas project teams.

Outcomes

The Program has successfully passed through the planning and initiation phases on schedule, and has just entered the delivery phase.
