Strategy Development Workshop Facilitation

Client

Biotechnology Research Company

Objectives

To develop a statement of strategic intent which will define viable outcomes of the client organisation and the pathway which will lead incrementally towards achieving these outcomes. To provide a framework for detailed action planning and a context for the development of a corporate identity that makes sense to shareholders, the marketplace and employees.

Pragmat Role

Pragmat planned and facilitated a series of two “future scenario” workshops in which the client’s whole senior management team participated.

As a prelude to the first workshop, Pragmat conducted a series of “one on one” interviews designed to elicit views of how the client’s future environment might present itself. The results were used as a stimulus for group work concentrating on immediate issues facing the business; the change drivers and critical uncertainties at work in the environment; possible future scenarios; “wild cards” which could derail scenarios; early warning signs of a given scenario materialising; and gap analysis to define the path from the present to the preferred scenario.

The purpose of the second workshop was to develop and test strategic options with the output being a set of agreed strategic objectives.

Pragmat also prepared a report detailing the findings of the two workshops.

Outcomes

The client was able to come to some critical realisations about the nature of its business and its environment, its strengths and weaknesses, and how it might best steer its way through several potential future scenarios. It was able to crystallise these insights into a set of strategic plans and activities aimed at positioning the Company to avail itself of emerging market opportunities.
