Objectives

To mount a case for replacement of the client’s principal product illustration software package used by life agents around Australia.
 

Pragmat Role

Pragmat was asked to undertake all work required to build the business case. We first canvassed all stakeholder groups to formulate a set of requirements which were acceptable to all parties. We then identified and evaluated a number of action alternatives, including: 

  • stay “as is”;

  • re-develop in-house;

  • re-develop using a sub-contract software house; and:

  • acquire a packaged solution.

Each of these options was subjected to a primary assessment based on a range of qualitative and technical factors. The leading contender was then subjected to a detailed financial analysis including the derivation of discounted cash flow models and project payback periods.
 

Outcomes

The client manager who commissioned the business case was able to justify pursuit of the “packaged solution” option to his senior management.
